Background

Simone Walsh PMP, RGN, MSc Public Health, BSc Nursing Management, PG Cert medical Toxicology, FFNMRCSI, is an Irish trained nurse and certified Project Management Professional. She began her research career as a population health nurse researcher and has extensive experience in epidemiological surveillance, management of national health information systems, and regulated medical device studies.  

Having worked as a research nurse for 11 years, Simone was appointed as the Senior Research Projects Manager of the RCSI Skin Wounds and Trauma (SWaT) Research Centre in September 2018. The Centre is Ireland’s only nurse led research centre and is driving cutting-edge research in wound healing and tissue repair. 

Simone established the Centre’s gold-standard research development protocol, and built the structures to launch the SWaT Research Network. She is the Centre’s lead on industry sponsored HPRA regulated clinical investigations of medical devices, ethics, data protection and PPI. Most recently she project managed a Science Foundation Ireland Covid-19 Rapid Response award, at the height of the pandemic. 

Simone is also a member of the RCSI Research Ethics Committee and HRB-CRCI Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) Working Group.
