IRNM is delighted to offer a dedicated mentoring and mentee pathway for our members. In partnership with the National Clinical Leadership Centre for Nursing and Midwifery, members can now access mentorship training and support. Those interested in becoming a mentor can take part in structured training, while members seeking guidance can apply to be matched with an experienced mentor. Read more below to discover the benefits of mentorship and how to get involved.

What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is two people working together within a supportive relationship, primarily for the benefit of the mentee. It is a learning partnership where the more experienced mentor draws upon their knowledge, skill set, and perspective to provide guidance and wise counsel to the less experienced mentee to help them to accelerate their learning and achieve their goals. The mentor facilitates that learning and growth by asking thought provoking questions that help the mentee to reflect on their experiences.

GUIDANCE | GROWTH | SUPPORT

“Mentoring includes role modelling, professional development, career enhancement, building and maintaining a professional network, increasing competence and self-esteem, and providing emotional and psychological support”
(Berk, Berg, Mortimer, Walton-Moss, & Yeo, 2005)

“The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves”
(Stephen Spielberg)
